A GREAT START FOR
MUSIC ON THE RIVER

The weather was great and the music was better as Hiway Ten comprised of Charlie Simar and Willow Skye Robinson (pictured above) kicked off the 2004 Music On The River series in Mecosta's Bromley Park last Friday night. Their unique variety of folk, country, blues and gospel was well receive by the enthusiastic audience. Their full hour and a half show consisted of many classics and standards as well as a number of great originals from their new CD which was available for sale at the concert. Our thanks to Hiway Ten for starting off the season so well. To learn more go to www.hiwayten.com .

MARK & RUTH ANN
MAKE A BIG SPLASH

The second week of Music On The River 2004 was another big success as local legends Mark and Ruth Ann Baumann took to the pavilion in Mecosta's Bromley Park and expertly presented a solid hour and a half of fine country style entertainment. It was pretty much a sing-along night as several from the audience came up and joined on the microphone for some of the standards A great time was had by all. T

ACOUSTIC INTIMACY

I t was just Bruce Wellman The Wandering Troubadour, his guitar and a very appreciative audience gathered around him as he sang standards of years gone by along with a couple of original creations and some clever parity songs in Bromley Park last Friday night. He took requests and handled most of them flawlessly and his public ate it up.

At 73, Bruce performs tirelessly to grateful groups in schools, hospitals and nursing homes, sometimes several times a day. He also gives his time and effort cutting and splitting wood for the poor and those unable to do it for themselves. Thanks to Bruce for the great show.

T.K. AND FIDDLERS A BIG HIT

Scattered showers forced Friday nights Music On The River concert to be moved from Bromley Park to the Morton Township Hall but spirits were not dampened as the best crowd of the season turned out to enjoy the multi-musical talents of T.K Kelly from Big Rapids, and "The Osceola Fiddlers, a new Bruce Baumann creation.

T.K.'s special blend of standards, fun songs and Irish and Scottish melodies had toes tappin' and hands clappinm'. Bruce also joined T.K. on guitar for several numbers.

And then came the Osceola Fiddlers playing their first official gig as it were, and sounding like they'd been playing for years. With a solid forty minutes of Fiddle Classics, the hands kept clappin' and the toes kept tappin. Thanks to all performers for a great show and all attendees for making it a great night.

Be sure to join us in Mecosta's Bromley Park for area favorites The Misty Blues featuring Pete The Sax Man and Nelly Stalter for a tuneful evening and unique blend of big band and country variety. The show starts at seven. In case of rain, it's back to the hall. Complementary refreshments will be served.

DEVLIGER DEBIGGEST SO FAR

The largest and most enthusiastic crowd of the season turned out in droves Last Friday night to spend an evening with Don DeVlieger Jr. and his guitar as he celebrated the release of his new self titled CD and kicked off his first world tour. The program included some folk and soft rock classics as well as a number of original compositions cover rock, blues and country, many of which can be found on the CD.

Much of the music on don's CD is in the Contemporary Christian category and was very well received as Don recently pastured a Big Rapids church for over a decade and many of his former flock joined him for the concert in Bromley park. He also delivered his personal stirring and emotional testimony during the program.

Thanks to Don for a great evening and thanks to Dan Hinkle for the photo.

JAMMIN' ON THE RIVER
BECOMES JAMMIN'
IN THE HALL

Shortly after the conclusion of The July 4 th Parade, the rain returned intermittently throughout the afternoon forcing the scheduled afternoon event, "Jammin' On The River", to move from Bromley Park to the Morton Township Hall where celebrators and musicians and vocalists all converged for hot dogs, chips and pop provided by Doyle Realty of Mecosta, and four hours of great home grown music. Thanks to Kevin Doyle, all the musicians and

HIWAY TEN HITS AGAIN

I t was an encore performance last Friday night for Willow Skye Robinson and Charlie Simar known to many as Hiway Ten. You May remember Hiway Ten opened the 2004 season of Music On The River and due to popular demand The Mecosta Area Committee was able to schedule them again for this past Friday.

Charlie and Willow's program was better than the last time as they introduced several new song and some great cover versions of classics they didn't perform last time. Even though the threat of rain moved the concert to the Morton Township Hall once again, none seemed to mind and everyone enjoyed the great music. Thanks again to Hiway Ten for an outstanding show.

SHOULD MUSIC ON THE RIVER
BECOME MUSIC IN THE MORTON?

Once again the threat of uncooperative summer weather chased entertainers and music lovers alike from Bromley Park to the township hall. Though it really didn't rain most of the night it would have made for a soggy situation for performers and their instruments. We're glad the hall is available to offer it's refuge.

Even though the weather was damp, the music of the group Afterthought was light and lively. A smooth blend of jazz and easy listening from the Lakeview based trio made for a relaxing and enjoyable evening. Thanks for the great concert.

EASTERN STANLEY TIME

"The weather was great!" he said happily for last Friday's Music On The River concert. Eastern Stanley Time including The Singing Farmer Andy Stanley, Nashville recording artist Leon Seiter and Cheri Miles of The Miles Family brought miles of smiles and lots of great country music standards and originals and even some good old rock and roll.

We can't forget the great job done by Pete playing both lead guitar and bass when necessary. Everyone was having such a great time that the group played about an hour longer than scheduled. What a show! Right here in Mecosta!

Refreshments were also served . Thanks to Conley's Home Style Bakery, at the corner of M-20 and 90 th Avenue, for all the delicious doughnuts. Be sure to see Tim for the best fresh baked goodies around. Thanks also to Patti and Lindy of The Mecosta Area Committee for the fruit punch and coffee to go with the doughnuts.

SURE HOPE YOU DIDN'T MISS IT

Bromley Park and The Little Muskegon River rang with the sounds of some of the best music ever performed in the area last Friday night as the Denise Beckwith and Doris Barhitte (Mecost's own singing rural postal carrier & Denise's Mom) show took to the pavilion. They sang numerous country, bluegrass and gospel standards flawlessly and the crowd, one of the largest of the season enjoyed them thoroughly. In addition to Doris, Denise and her guitar, they were also joined by some of the areas finest musicians without a doubt. The Band consisted of Dave Conley on guitar, Dave Conley Jr. on banjo, Pete Barhitte on dobro and vocals and Mark Baumann filled in the sound with his great bass work as well as vocals. Everyone was also treated to several songs from Bruce Wellman who did a solo show here in June. The Concert lasted almost two and a half hours and the crowd still wasn't ready to leave. Many thanks to Denise, Doris and everyone who participated in one of the best shows this town has ever seen.

CELTIC MUSIC AT IT'S BEST

It was hot dogs, chips and a mix of Irish, Scottish and traditional folk songs in the park Friday night. The food was furnished by Kevin Doyle and Doyle Realty at M-20 and 90 th Avenue, and the music came from Dave Leonard The Hurdy-Gurdy Man & Peatbog doing a variety of Celtic and Old Time Music. A great concert, a great crowd and great food! What more could you ask for? Hats off to Lindy for the Tube Steaks Extraordinaire.
